I’ve just released video 23 with free cognitive exercises that may be useful for your writing and daily focus.
It’s a 13 minute routine that activates both hemispheres and supports coordination, memory, and concentration. These exercises are also helpful if you live with ADHD-type symptoms, are interested in regulating your nervous system, or would like your brain to work faster.
We start by warming up the hands and activating sensory areas of the brain. From there, we move into a sequence of focused exercises. These coordinated, alternating movements ask the brain to track order, direction, and rhythm while managing both hands at once. That combination trains attention, working memory, mental flexibility, and the ability to switch between tasks without getting stuck (something people living with ADHD symptoms, including me, are very familiar with). And, of course, it makes you a better writer as your brain can function better.
What I also value about these exercises is it allows you to know you are doing extra things to keep your brain healthy and performing well for longer than what would otherwise be the case. You can’t put a price on that!
All lessons in the playlist, 23 so far and counting, are completely free to use. I hope you will benefit from these exercises as much as I did.
Just as helpful as these exercises are for managing ADHD symptoms, they are really helpful for regulating your nervous system. I personally got great results from these exercises when it comes to regulating my nervous system, and specific scary things that were happening because of a disregulated nervous system are now under control. I hope these cognitive exercises will be just as helpful for you. Given the amount of stress we are all facing, this is becoming increasingly important to focus on for all of us.
Noteworthy Highlight
If you want to add “bestselling author” to your bio, book cover, and how people introduce you on stage, there is a simpler way than trying to push a solo book to the top of Amazon.
I am leading a new co-authored book project where we do the work to bring the book to bestseller status, and you contribute one thoughtful chapter of up to 2,000 words that you are proud to sign your name to. You also receive a professionally designed PDF of your chapter and a focused training on how to use the book to support your business and personal brand.
All previous co-authored books in this series became bestsellers, and co-authors became bestselling authors. If this feels aligned, you can join now for $997 or 4 payments of $275.
We are wrapping up the project. If you would like to be our co-author please join ASAP as we are already starting the editing process of some of the chapters. Also this is likely the last time I am doing a co-authored project, so if you would like to co-author a book with me we would love to have you join us!
We finish with tapping and bilateral stimulation, which is a simple way to engage both sides of the body, activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reduce internal tension, and re-establish a sense of grounding and safety. It’s a practical tool you can also use during the day when stress or overwhelm starts to build or you need a reset between tasks.
It is a great reset to do every time you take a break from writing!
This free lesson is for educational purposes only and is not medical or psychological advice, of course. Please listen to your body, skip any movement that feels wrong for you, and speak with your health-care provider if those movements are okay for you to incorporate. But, as you will see, they are very gentle movements that should be safe and highly beneficial to do for most people.
If you choose to do these exercises daily for at least 30 days, you’ll likely notice a similar impact to the one I noticed, which includes improved ability to pay attention, improved ability to write for longer periods, advanced information processing, improved memory, the ability to move more easily between tasks, and, most important for me, a better-regulated nervous system. In my opinion, it’s a simple way to invest in mental clarity now and in long-term brain health.
Once you’ve tried it, I’d be interested to hear what you notice, especially around focus, writing tasks, ease of starting work, and the impact on your nervous system. If you feel like it, please leave those thoughts in the comments under the video.
